Past
Stories say that when man was young that the supernatural mingled freely among them. Although, the exact nature of their relationship is unclear due to the lack of writing available from this era, the two clearly bred. The existence of witches is proof of that, and there is no doubt within anyone's mind that witches are the offspring of human and the supernatural as over the course of time the two have bred again and again with witches always being the result of their union, but as time passed witches being born as a result of man and the supernatural became increasingly uncommon until it is almost unheard of. Now a day, witches tend to be born to other witches, and most contribute better understanding of genetics as the reason for this.
In spite, sharing a lineage, witches and man are not known for their compatibility. Dire things happen when one receives organs and blood from the other, and although to a slightly lesser extent the presence of a hybrid child has a similar result. What is unknown is whether or not man and the supernatural experienced similar thing when breeding together. There are those who theorize they didn't while others believe that the supernatural knew how to offset the imbalances within the expecting mother. Whatever, the truth because of how dangerous it was for a mother to carry a hybrid child to term, both witches and man decided it was best to only breed with their own kind. Yet, despite their efforts intermingling does still happen.

Nolan Cornelius Nykvist is the result of such a union. No one knows who his father was, and it wasn't from a lack of effort on anyone's part. They explored every avenue to try to determine who he might be, but the only thing they could uncover was what Cor's mother told them and that was hardly anything at all. His mother, on the other hand, was well known. She was Amaliya Daphne Nykvist the daughter of Lambert Edward Nykvist--a world famous human composer--and his fourth wife Janene Victoria Nykvist, nee Kloet. There was a lot of controversy surrounding their marriage, and many believe that what lead to Cor's grandmother's disappearance when his mother was only three, and her father married his fifth wife a year later.
The fifth wife had no interest in playing mother to another woman's child and passed Cor's mother and her two brothers off to nannies then shipped them off to boarding school when they came of age. Although, such a practice wasn't uncommon for the social status the Nykvist found themselves within, it still had an adverse effect upon Cor's mother. She became quite rebellious and eventually ran away when she was seventeen. The next four years she lived mostly out of the public eye, but every once in a while, someone would catch a sighting of her that would spark public interest. It was during this time she met Cor's father. It is unclear how long she knew him before she found herself pregnant with Cor, or whether or not she realized what he was before they became intimate.
What is known, is that she would have realized what Cor's father was when she started expressing the symptoms that a human did when they found themselves carrying a witch's child or receiving a witch organ through a transplant. For five months, Cor's mother evaded authorities while she killed a number of witches to harvest their powers. However, eventually she was captured by the witches who ended up sending her to the asylum. The asylum was place that witches kept humans suffering from the same condition as Cor's mother. Many believed that the witches just sent them there to rot rather than admit that there was no cure for what affected them. Whatever the truth, the witches weren't going to kill a pregnant woman, and although a hybrid witches valued the existence of any witch's child. However, there were those who expressed they should have killed his mother when he was born.

There was no doubt within everyone's mind that he was the prophesied one--the harbinger. Even if that wasn't the case, there was something off about him, and this strangeness about him was only intensified by his familiar. Being a hybrid, no one knew for certain whether or not he would get one, but they expected that if he did that if he did that it would shift into regular animals as the familiar of hybrids tend to do to express their lesser powers compared to full-blooded witches. This was not the case, his familiar shifted into the typical mythological animals of full-blooded witches, but there was something off about it. His familiar did not quite capture the animal it was trying to turn into, and while the mistake wasn't anything major it was still noticeable. They decided that would be best to drop any attempt to find his father for two reasons.
The first they didn't want to bring Cor's father the shame of being the one who planted the seed of the harbinger, and the second they thought they could seal him away within the asylum and evade the prophecy. While life within the asylum was not ideal it was far from horrible. His mother doted upon him as much as she was able, teaching him about her family and human custom. One of these customs is the reason he goes by Cornelius instead of Nolan. Among humans only those who you are most intimate with is allowed to call you by your first name, and before the modern day they were the only ones that actually knew your first name. His mother ended up dying when he was seven. She just got extremely sick one day and never recovered. Her death hit Cor hard, and he withdrew within himself as a result. His time within the asylum came to an end when he was ten going on eleven. It came in the form of a female witch who had quite the reputation. People dreaded her appearance, and although she appeared no older than eighteen, she was known to be much older.
Although, her exact age is unknown. It is believed she has been around for centuries. Some believe that she was one of the first witches. Whatever the truth, those within the asylum knew that her presence there was not a good thing, but until she whisked Cor away, they had no idea what she had come from. Truth be told, they only realized that was her intent after full account of the damages had been taken after the attack. She took Cor to a field not far away from the asylum and begun to question him about his time there. He had no problem answering those questions until she inquired how it made him feel. He didn't know the answer because it had never occurred to him that he could feel anything. He told her it didn't make him feel anything. Perhaps, picking up on his confusion, she asked him if he felt sad and he replied that he doesn't feel sad because he can't feel sad, but he can prefer pie.

The female witch didn't directly reveal the reason she broke him out of the asylum, but she made it very clear that he was never going to be locked away like that again. She took him back to her estate to train, and she was true to her words. Over the years, he has grown extremely fond of her, and it might be said that his feelings lean towards the romantic variety. However, he doesn't believe she shares his feelings because she is in love with someone else. She talks about him often, and not just to talk about the daughter they had together. He, also, believes that the reason she rescued him from the asylum has to do with the fact that this man is his father. She hasn't come out and said it, but she mentioned plenty of times that she and this male had a falling out while she was pregnant with her daughter because she found out that he got a human woman pregnant, and her daughter is around the same age as he. Of course, he knows it could be someone else, but there is too much coincidence for him to ignore the possibility.
When he hit puberty, his familiar didn't settle and take a permanent form like it was supposed to. However, both he and the female witch noticed that when it took different forms that it didn't look as off, and any strangeness can be eliminated if it has an image to directly copy from. The witch realized the opportunity that this could provide her. She had recently found her daughter. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she had to abandon her daughter for her own safety right after she was born. She wasn't the only one who found her. Others did as well, and they were sending her to a specialized school. A specialized school was what every witch went to at the age of sixteen. Most witches entered puberty by this age, and these specialized schools focused more comprehensively on the type of magic associated with the permanent form that their familiar have taken.
The female witch is unsure how ready her daughter is for this school because she had left her in a location where she wouldn't receive a proper training. It was the only place she could think to put her to keep her enemies from finding her. She wanted Cor to attend the same school and befriend her. They would have to make everyone believe that he was a full witch because hybrids weren't allowed to attend the same specialized schools as witches. This was because their magic is believed to be less potent than full blooded witches due to the fact that instead of the typical mythological creatures their familiar settle on regular animals. However, there was no doubt within her mind that they could make them believe he was a full witch. The records of the asylum weren't common knowledge, and even if someone attending the school knew of his existence, they wouldn't automatically know him upon seeing him. Moreover, they could hide his most notable feature- thosestrange ever-changing eyes-- behind contacts.
He agreed to do as she asked. One because he loved her, and he found it hard to refuse her request. The second reason because he wanted to meet his own sister. Their plan went off without a hitch, but he knew nothing about befriending anyone. Despite, all the freedom that the female witch had allowed him he never went out and made friends. He never had the desire but found he didn't have to put much effort in the attempt. Others were drawn towards him. More importantly the witches' daughter was drawn towards him. Over the years, they have grown close, but not too close. It wasn't uncommon for them to hang out, but they weren't best friends. However, this wasn't surprising since there wasn't anyone within the school, he would call his best friend. His sister, on the other hand, didn't seem to have any problem making a best friend. Despite, her untrusting nature, she was more open to friendships than he was. Two things have become obvious. The first his sister is in love with him and the second her best friend is in love with her, and he pretends to be oblivious to both.

Present
The female witch decided she wanted more than reports about her daughter, she wanted to meet her. But she couldn't go to her, she had to convince her daughter to seek her out. Her enemies were watching the female witch and they would know that the girl was her daughter if the female witch approached her, but if the opposite happened than it wouldn't occur to them. Together, they came up with and executed a plan. They arranged someone to be found. This person won't be living being, but he and everyone else will believe that he is. He stayed at the school for a little while, attending class and befriending some of the other students. However, his oddness did not go unignored. At first, they brushed it off. They told themselves it added to his charm, but eventually they couldn't ignore the fact they found his strangeness more creepy than charming. None of them could explain it, and eventually Cor, his sister, his sister's best friend and the guy who found the one that Cor and the female witch planted took the puppet to an isolated spot just outside the school grounds.
It didn't take much for the puppet to reveal the truth, at least in regard to their suspicion that his coming had been a ruse of some kind. They began to question him, trying to figure out why he had tricked them. Both his sister and her best friend start accusing the guy who found the puppet of being in on it, and of course he denies the accusations. It was than Cor reveals his involvement. They are rendered silent for a few moments due to the shock then they become visibly upset. They wanted to know why he was betraying his people, and he simply told them he wasn't. He turned towards his sister and ask her whether or not her mother would agree with the way things were. He didn't expect any answer to those words. They were just meant to plant the seed within her head that would get her seeking her mother out, but his sister answered all the same by telling him that her mother had died when she was born.
Through, he saw that his words made her wonder. Only time would tell whether or not it would cause her to wonder toward her mother, but for the moment those words made her believe they were all in danger. She tells the other two to run, and towards Cor ready to fight him, but she was still clearly in love with him. Despite, his betrayal or the fact she believed he was going to try to kill them all she still desired to be kissed by him. Cor doesn't know if he sensed her desire or heard her thoughts, what he does know he decided to act before she realized that he had no intention of hurting anyone. He decided that it was best that they believe that, at least for the moment. He reached out grabbing his sister arm and cast a spell that would bind her in place. He told her that she could use one of her big spells to break free. She was more powerful than him, but he was still going to win. His words about her being more powerful was more a jab towards his true status as a hybrid than any actual comparison of their powers. Through, his sister was considered quite powerful by witches' standard.
Instead of attempting to break free, she hit him hard upon his chest and cast her own spell. Believing it was some kind of death magic, he fled, leaving her pinned in that spot. However, as he ran, he noticed that he didn't feel like other times death magic had been cast upon him or in the general area as him. He can't explain it, but despite the distance he put between them he still felt her presence as if she was standing right next to him. He has no idea what this means and so he decides to ask the only person who might have an answer--the female witch who found him--but when he returned to her estate, he found that it was empty. He searched the estate for any sign where the female witch might have gone, but he found none. Uncertain, what to do, he decides to remain within the estate and contact some of the female witch's associates to see if they might have any work for him.
